1.0 Entry Rules
1.1 Age Limit: The Emperor desires his army to be of a certain level of maturity and as such, applications to join will not be accepted for members under the age of 16. Exceptions to this rule can be made, but they will be handled by invitation only after a considerable display of dependability and maturity. Any person found to have lied on their application, will be expelled immediately from the clan.
1.2 Headsets: Communication is essential to being a member of the Imperial Army. Stormtroopers rely heavily on good communications in order to coordinate attacks and report enemy positions. For this reason, everyone who wants to be considered for enlistment WILL have Teamspeak (or whatever voice chat we may have at the time) and a headset. Microphone/speaker combinations can be accepted, but they run the risk of destroying good communications as they cause tremendous amounts of feedback and echo. Headsets are relatively inexpensive and that price is a small price to pay to join up with the Emperor's Elite. If you want to be in the clan, do us all a favor and pick up a $10 headset somewhere.
1.3 Xfire: Xfire is our defacto messenger. While many of us use AIM or other messenger clients, especially for dealing with other clans, Xfire is our choice for clan communication. It is a messenger designed for gamers that allows you to see what game your buddies are playing, and what servers they are on. By simply pressing the join button you will be able to join them on that server. Clan members, please do not share other clan members Xfire ID's with people outside of the clan without their permission. Try to use other ID's or messengers for outside communications so that we can be left in peace on Xfire.
1.4 Availability: We are a clan composed of older individuals, and because of that, we have commitments that generally preclude us from playing in the afternoons and early evenings. Generally, all practices, matches and scrims take place after 9pm eastern. For this reason, if you are still living at home with your parents, you need to be ABSOLUTELY SURE that you we can depend on you to show up to matches that start at or after 9pm and might last until 11pm. If you get removed from a match during play because your parents pulled you off the game, you will be suspended. If it happens twice, it will not happen again.
1.5 Tryouts: Tryouts will be conducted ~14 days after submission of an application. If you haven't posted in the forums, or played on the servers with us, don’t expect a tryout. Tryouts will be conducted in 4 phases.
1.5.1 Phase I: Phase I is the dedication phase. This is probably the hardest phase of the four. Most people just don't have the patience or dedication to wait out this 2-week period. Frankly, we like it that way. Weeds out a lot of people. This phase starts at the submission of your application and lasts approximately 2 weeks. We use this period to evaluate your personality, your character, your dependability and your game play. Make sure to participate in forum discussions, play on our servers. If you show your face for those two weeks and show some dedication and motivation, you will move to Phase II.
1.5.2 Phase II: Phase II is tryouts proper. Each gaming division will have its own set of regulations governing tryouts proper. There is a sticky topic in the top of each gaming division general topics in the forums with the details of that divisions tryouts. If you pass tryouts, you will continue to Phase III. If however you do not pass tryouts, it does not have to be the end of the road for you. You are welcome to stick around, post in the forums, play with us on the server, get your skills up, and when you are ready, request another tryout, and perhaps the second time around you will make it.
1.5.3 Phase III: Voting Phase. This is probably the 2nd hardest of the 4 phases. It is at this point that all the current members of your can vote on whether or not they think you will be a good addition to the team. If you don’t click with us, if your ideologies differ too much from our own, you very well might not make it past this phase. Sorry, that’s just the way it is. All active IA members get a vote. Votes from members in the division you are trying out for are equivalent to 1.5 votes, in order to give the gaining division a little more say in your joining.
1.5.4 Completion of Phase I-III: Upon passing all 4 phases you will be given a clan signature block as well as a clan email (user@imperialarmy.net) and you will gain access to all of the private IA forums. You MUST sign up for the Imperial Army newsletter. This is a vital communication tool and is used to disseminate important information including major clan changes, new members, upcoming match reminders, etc. The sign up form is at the top of the forums.
1.5.5 Phase IV: Probation. During the first two weeks any member of the clan can initiate a secret vote to remove you from the clan for ANY REASON. This is to ensure that you did not put on a show for us to gain entry into the clan, and to keep in check any attitudes that might develop.
2.0 General Clan Rules
2.1 Clan Name: In order to maintain a certain level of professionalism, you may be asked to change your name upon entry into the clan. Currently we steer clear of certain derogatory names, or names that can be construed as derogatory. While we may understand and appreciate any internal jokes, outsiders may not, and we want to make good first impressions. Secondly, no clan names will utilize 1337 speak, or any variations there of. Names will not include numbers that replace letters and will not include ASCII characters. We want people to be able to recognize your name, and fear it!! Some exceptions can be made with numbers when a games character limit might hinder you from using your name. Example IA~DarthVader would not work in Halo, as it has too many characters. Hence, an exception could be made for IA~DarthV8R.
2.2 Clan Tag: The standard clan tag is IA~ and will be placed before your name. Once you place the IA~ in front of your name, it will remain there for the remainder of your enlistment in the Imperial Army. The name you bring with you will also remain loyal to the Imperial Army. That means if you were BlackOps before, you are now and forever IA~BlackOps. There will be no BlackOps or FNG=BlackOps. Loyalty to this clan will be taken very seriously. If you aren't proud to use the IA tag wherever you go, then we will be proud to let you go. When you are out there kicking ass, we want you to be doing so in the name of the Imperial Army. If you get caught without your tag or with another tag, you will be suspended for 2 weeks from the forums and match play. If you are caught again you will be discharged without honors from the clan. This pertains to your IA name. If you want to create an alias to use for recon, or using when you aren't doing well and you don't want to shame your IA name. By all means, go ahead. Just DO NOT remove IA~ from your clan name, or you will pay the price. It's a simple matter of respect.
2.3 - Signature Blocks: Continuing on our military style organization, in an effort to maintain a sense of uniformity and unity among the clan, all members will utilize the signature blocks assigned to them when posting on our forum or any forum where you post using your IA name. Signature blocks have a standard appearance and may be modified by the user, or other users so long as the basic look at feel is the same. Clan Admins have the ultimate say in what stays and what goes.
2.4 - Dual Clan Enrollment: We will allow members to also be members of other clans. This is a pretty uncommon ideology, but we realize that we may not always meet the gaming needs of our members. However, there are some rules that we require of you in order to do so. Your name in your other clan will be different from your IA clan name. You will not be allowed to play on any Imperial Army asset as your alternate screen name. You will be kicked if you log into one of our servers as your alter ego. If you attempt to use an IA asset for your other clan without prior authorization, you will be suspended for 2 weeks from TS, the servers and the forums.
2.5 - Imperial Army Game Divisions: The Imperial Army supports multiple games, and each game has its own division. Each division will be lead by a division captain (DC) who is responsible for recruiting, match scheduling, and other admin functions for that division. Soldiers of the Imperium are welcome and encouraged to participate in multiple divisions. If you are capable of participating in multiple ladders, it is suggested that you attend practices for each division, and keep up to practice in each one, so that you can be utilized for ladder matches in a case where an additional player is needed. Please see section 2.6.1 for more info on practices. With that in mind, the needs of the clan come before the wants of the individual. There will be a precedence level for game types between divisions. A scheduled match for one division takes precedence over practice, scrims and free play for another. For instance, if you are in two divisions. If you play Unreal and Halo. If IA has a UT match and we are a player short, even if you are currently more devoted to Halo, you will be required to forgo all Halo activities at that time, other than matches, in order to support the clan in its UT match endeavor. Failure to do so will result in a discharge without honors.
2.6 Required Activities: Each member of the clan is a needed in order to make this a successful clan, both in game, and in existence. For that reason, we enforce certain standards of participation in the clan. Failure to meet these requirements could result in a discharge from the clan.
2.6.1 Practice: Practices will be held on a weekly basis for each division. Practices for different divisions will not be conducted on the same night of the week in order to facilitate multi-division members. You can find practice nights scheduled in the calendar found at the top of the forums. As a single division member you will be REQUIRED to attend practice at a minimum of every other week. If you miss two practices in a row without any kind of notification to the Admin team, you will be suspended, recommit the offense and you will be discharged from the clan. If you are in multiple divisions, while it is recommended that you still attend 2 practices per month, per division, you will only be required to show up to 1 practice per division, per month. If you fail to do so, you will be suspended, and a second offense will get you discharged from the clan.
2.6.2 Forum activity: Part of being a contributing member of the Imperial Army is participating in the forums. While we would preferably like to see good posts with good comments, suggestions, information, tips, etc. You will be expected to follow the forum rules found in section 3.0, failure to do so could result in chastising, embarrassment, suspension and ultimately, discharge. You will not be graded upon quantity or content, but if you show a complete disregard for reading the forums, if an admin looks at the site stats and you haven't been to the forum in a week, you will be suspended, and if you continue to not participate, you will be discharged from the clan.
2.6.3 Clan Governing: The clan is a democratic dictatorship. In most circumstances, the Admin team will handle the major governing of the clan. However, there will be those instances when votes will need to be cast. It is your duty as a Stormtrooper to vote. While you are not required to vote, your disinterest in what happens in/to the clan shows a lack of interest in the clan and its future, and will likely result in your discharge.
2.6.4 Excused Absences:
2.7 Clan Property Rights: Everything created for and by the Imperial Army, will remain on an Imperial Army asset. All members are welcome and encouraged to create content for the clan, but it must reside on our servers, where the original founding members are able to remove anything inappropriate, and maintain proper command and control over such content. If you have a page you would like added, or changes you would like to see, or a section that you would like to be responsible for, please contact the admin team. Spin off websites, game servers and the like are not permitted without prior approval.
3.0 Forum Rules:
3.1 Manners: The forums are hosted on a personal PC, on a Personal Internet Access account, in one of the Members homes. We fully expect you to act as if you are a guest in said persons house. If this needs to be spelled out, we are going to have issues.
3.2 English: We utilize the English language here. Not some butchered Internet garble, not 1337 HaXoR speak either. Spelling and Grammar are fair game, and complete disregard for the English language will not only make you a target for unwanted hostilities it will likely get you suspended from the forums. Only those generally accepted internet short hands are acceptable. (LOL, ROFL, WTF, etc….) U is not you, and i is not I. Use punctuation and the shift key! Failure to follow the simple rules of the English language will get your post edited, and not necessarily just to correct it.
3.3 Pics/Movies: Do not upload pictures or movie files that could be considered offensive (for our site) or could reflect poorly on the clan or the forum. If you should happen to post something that is considered offensive and asked to remove it, or have it removed, please just respect our decision.
3.4 Discussions on Cheating: While threads about "how to cheat" will be deleted, threads on newly released cheats, how they work, and how to possibly detect, defeat, or counteract, are not only allowed, but encourage.
3.5 Hacking: Please be aware that our forum admin is studying network security and any attempt to hack into our site, our servers, the forum or any part of the database will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law.
4.0 TeamSpeak Rules - For members and non-members.
4.1 General Activity - Not during a match or organized scrim.
4.1.1 Profanity: Do not use profanity in a serious manner aimed at the admins or any of the clan members. Doing so will get you banned from the TS server, and is done via IP, so it will be very hard to come back. General profanity and playful swearing (aimed at an individual or not) is obviously tolerated. There is a line that shouldn't be crossed, lets stay on the correct side of it.
4.1.2 Arguing: Do not argue with someone in any of the channels that are currently in use for a game. If you want to have a screaming match, switch to one of the currently unused channels, or risked being kicked.
4.1.3 Cooperation: If you are asked to leave, change channels by and admin, please do so without arguing and without hesitation. We generally only make such requests when necessary, please try to fulfill them to the best of your ability.
4.1.4 - Strategies: Do not discuss IA game strategies and tips in the default channel. This is sensitive information and should be protected from the prying ears of the enemy.
4.1.5 Legal: Do not discuss anything illegal in TeamSpeak.
4.1.6 Privacy: Please, use common sense when discussing stuff with people that you do not know. Do not give up your full name, your address, or anything you don’t want made public. Just be smart.
4.2 Match Activity - During an organized match or scrim
4.2.1 No Bullshit: Talk about things specific to the match at hand. Any small talk about curtains, frilly undies and the like is prohibited during match play.
4.2.2 Communicating: When announcing information about what you are doing and where you are, speak of yourself in the 3rd person. Determining a person by their voice is sometimes difficult during a full-blown battle. Ex: BlackOps has the flag..
4.2.3 Pertinence: There is typically a lot going on in a match, try to keep the information pertinent, and refrain from giving info that won't really help your teammates. We don't need to know that you died and fell and your body flipped 3 times. We don't need to know that that guy killed you with a plasma rifle, can you believe that? That kind of information is not helpful to the success of our mission. Important information would be a Rocket launcher in the tunnels, blue side. Or I dropped the flag, its by the health pack under the ledge, or something similar.
4.2.4 Specify: Be specific in the information that you do give. Try to use major landmarks as points of reference. Middle of the map is very vague. Try: He is red side, by the FRG spawn. Or coming in a warthog, top level of the bridge
4.2.5 Command and Control: Team Captain has final say during any match. Whoever is the team captain for that particular match will be responsible for all final decisions. While input from the team is always helpful, DO NOT just take over and start giving orders. If you have a suggestion, make it. Or hold it until after the match and post a suggestion in the forums for a strategy to use next time. Multiple commanders cause confusion among the troops and will result in a worse loss than a bad strategy alone would have. If you make a suggestion and the Team Captain turns it down. That's it. End of story, do not argue with him during the battle, that is considered mutiny in the military and will not be tolerated.
5.0 Division Rules
Each division has its own set of rules specific to that particular game and those rules can be found not only here, but also as a sticky thread at the top of the general thread for that game.
5.1 Halo
5.2 - Unreal
5.3 - BFV
6.0 Imperial Code of Conduct
The Imperial Code of Conduct is code of honor. It represents the ideologies of its founding members about what a clan is and should be. It defines the basic principles that we feel set us apart and is a guidebook about how a Stormtrooper in the Imperial Army should conduct himself.
6.1 Internal Clan Conduct: In order to be successful on the field of battle, we must also be successful in our relationships with each other. That means being respectful of each other. Playful smack talk, especially in concern to the internal ladders is of course tolerated, but there is an obvious line between goofing and being malicious Do not put each other down for beliefs, mistakes, or skill level. Do not complain about problems without having some sort of proposed solution. Any problems with the clan itself, its direction, or other members will be contained in the private IA forums. Do not air our dirty laundry. Any issues with clan members can be brought up to any of the Admin team. Question decisions you do not necessarily agree with. This is a mature organization and expressing your concerns will not earn you any sort of retribution. You may not get what you want, but you certainly won't get in trouble. Be on time for matches, practices, and scrims.
6.2 External Clan Conduct: In order to stand out from the rest of the world of online gaming, we must take measures to be the "better person". To that end, BlackOps is officially the foreign affairs officer, and is ultimately responsible for all external clan relations. If you have a problem with another clan, a website, or some organization, please refer to the foreign affairs officer to deal with it. If his proceedings are not to your liking, bring it up in the private clan area of the forums. Each division captain will be responsible for working out the details and scheduling of clan matches. Refrain from personal attacks on other clans and their members; keep the smack talk game oriented. Challenge other clans, promise their demise if you so desire, then pass along the info to BlackOps or your DC to work out the details. At a minimum, follow all of our own forum rules when posting on someone else's forum. Be tactful and polite as possible in your dealings with other clans. Do not tell other people that we cheat. We have worked hard for our reputation, lets not tarnish it by encouraging other people to believe that we use any sort of cheats.
- Code of Conduct Summary: In the end, what it really boils down to is making the Imperial Army a better, well-respected clan. We want to be feared, not hated. Simply put, if your actions or words are not going to improve the reputation of the Imperial Army, then don't do or say it.
#2 - The rules for posts are simple. We USE ENGLISH. Misspelling is a mistake. Mistakes are part of being human. Making mistakes on purpose is stupidity and will not be tolerated. And YES this is for all forums.
Posts that are poorly written have the chance of being deleted - THAT decision is on either the moderator or the Admin.
#3 - Flames - Internal will be tolerated to a degree. If a moderator or myself seem it inappropriate, then it will "go away" or be locked. Flames from NON IA folks will be deleted...Whether or not a post is a flame is ENTIRELY left to the admin team/moderator.
